Southeastern Motorcycle Retreats, LLC
If your pleasure is the outdoors, we have just the retreats for you!
Our favorite things to do are to ride motorcycles and go camping. On this retreat, we get to
do both! The southeast has been blessed with many motorcycle friendly campgrounds
situated near perfect motorcycling byways. Not sure you have the gear to tent camp on
your bike?  Not to worry! We have the pleasure of the friendship of one of the originals in
motorcycle camping. Frank and Jeannie Cheek along with Louis and Lisa Herrera own and
operate
High Valley Resort and Cabins. They offer tent/rv camping, motorcycle camping
or you can opt for one of their beautiful new cabins. If you would prefer something in
between, they also have bunkhouse shelters that offer you a rustic but comfortable private
shelter. The facility is located in the mountain valley just outside of Suches, Georgia. This
makes it an ideal starting point for many loop rides to nearby sites and attractions but, if
you prefer a different location, we have many camping options available.

This year we are offering our original camping trip as well as several new routes to other
motorcycle friendly campgrounds. Depending on weather, group size and client
preferences, we will offer these as custom or semi-custom retreats. This is our way of
helping you make the most of every moment of your vacation.

The following description is what you might expect on one of our Camping Retreats.

We will start out Friday morning and make our way through the mountains to Tellico
Plains, Tennessee. Tellico Plains is considered the western terminus of the Cherohala
Skyway. This beautiful stretch of highway runs through some of the last remaining virgin
forests in the east. It was the most costly stretch of highway in North Carolina History.
You’ll soon see why. It is totally uncluttered and very well maintained making it one of the
premier motorcycle rides anywhere. Our ride will be west to east ending up in Robbinsville,
NC.  After lunch we will be working our way south along the Nantahala River past the
Nantahala Outdoor Center. This is a one stop shopping destination for the outdoorsman.

Continuing on, the ride is relaxed and cool as we follow the river along the valley floor.
Joining Hwy 64 , we head west to Lake Chatuge then south into the little town of
Hiawassee, Georgia. Hiawassee hosts the
Georgia Mountain Fair  each summer drawing
national recording acts to the stage. If you are in the area during Late July, it is worth a
day meandering the crafts areas and checking out the first rate entertainers. Leaving
Hiawassee we will return to our host campground. A group dinner will be available  at the
recently added "Franks Place" named in honor of Frank Cheek. After a chef's choice
meal, you can relax in the new lodge area or if you still feel the need for more saddle time,
you may decide to dine out in Helen or Dahlonega. Both have a variety of restaurants.

Saturday the ride will be shorter but none the less scenic as we make our way to Helen for
a morning of shopping, site seeing and lunch. Prepare to saddle up after lunch as we make
a short ride north from Helen to Anna Ruby Falls for a fantastic view of the dual falls.
Leaving here we will head toward the Brasstown Bald overlook. Our return trip might
include stops at the Walasi-Yi Outfitter at Neel’s Gap. This is the only covered portion of
the Appalachian National Trail as it literally runs through the outdoor center. From here,
our trip continues south, back to Suches.

Sunday, we have an ambitious schedule that will have us covering a lot of ground. Heading
north and east from Suches, we pass through Clayton and Dillard, Georgia on the way to
Highlands, NC. Near Rosman we turn north to the Blue Ridge Parkway. From this junction
of the Blue Ridge, is one of the nicest portions of this scenic road in our opinion and will
bring us to it's western end in Cherokee, NC. We exit off the parkway and start back
toward Suches via Cherokee.

Cherokee can boast it has a little bit of everything. The Harrah’s Casino is here as well as
several campgrounds, hotels and restaurants. If you have time to spend here, Cherokee
and the surrounding area has much to offer. Both the authentic Cherokee and the other
attractions here can provide days of recreation. Trout fishing, biking and hiking are the
local outdoor favorites.  Plan to return and spend some time exploring the beautiful places
of Cherokee.

Leaving Cherokee we will ride south through Dillard and on to the High Valley Resort and
Campground. While the road is more direct, it is still very scenic. Dinner will be with the
group on the way. We expect to arrive back at the campground after dark.

Your group ride portion of the retreat will conclude upon arriving back at High Valley
Resort. This doesn't mean the end of your retreat though. You can still enjoy a cozy
campfire or gather with your fellow riders to reflect on your days ride. What ever you
choose, we hope you relax and enjoy your time at High Valley Resort. Monday, if you are
returning a rental motorcycle and you need  transportation back to Atlanta Int. Airport, we
will be happy to help you with that. Please let us know your itinerary in advance so we can
make all the necessary arrangements. It is our pleasure to make your retreat hassle free.
